From the small steel construction metalworking shop for agriculture, Craftsmen and small-scale industry to the internationally popular specialist for intelligent material flow solutions: The LOUIS SCHIERHOLZ GmbH celebrates its 90th anniversary in 2015. The tradition-filled company from Bremen with its distribution partners in seven countries worldwide is active in all areas of industry and logistics today - from the manufacturing, assembly and commissioning of electrical monorail conveyors and Power&Free conveyor technology to the project planning and delivery of turnkey production systems.
"We are perfectly positioned in the logistics location of Bremen, the home of major brands like Airbus and Daimler," states Michael Seeger, Head of Sales at SCHIERHOLZ. High quality and durable Power&Free systems, electrical monorail conveyors and floor-based conveyors are shipped out into the world from the headquarters of the conveyor technology specialists by the River Weser. In 1948 after World War II the company's major clients were from the automotive industry. The intelligent transportation technology by SCHIERHOLZ was quickly appreciated by companies including Ford, Opel, Borgward and Lloyd. Mail and package traffic started to increase in 1955 and mail distributions centres worldwide benefited from the conveyor technology solutions from Bremen.
SCHIERHOLZ laid the technological cornerstone for its current transportation and logistics systems in the early 90s. The focus was on the development of an electric monorail conveyor that was able to handle grades of up to 90 degrees and the system has been replacing cost-intensive vertical lifters in the automotive industry since then. SCHIERHOLZ also made significant progress in the Power&Free technologies for temperatures of up to 250 degrees (forward considerably) during this period. Another advancement: the introduction of floor-based conveyors. This provided the suppliers of the automotive industry with ideal conditions for applying surface-coatings on large plastic parts. SCHIERHOLZ has also developed conveyor systems that fulfil food industries strictest hygiene requirements. The company has successively conquered the market leadership in the aerospace sector year for year since 1996.
The transportation and filling and cleaning of the catering carts for the in-flight service of reputable international carriers like Emirates, Lufthansa and Cathay Pacific has been accomplished by using SCHIERHOLZ conveyor technology since then.
"For 90 years now our company has oriented itself towards the customer requirements of the international markets from the headquarters in Bremen," says Detlev Rupprecht, spokesman for Corporate Communication at SCHIERHOLZ. "Quality, Made in Germany' and customer-specific conveyor systems have contributed decisively to the success of the company." The official opening of the new Technology Center at the company site in the Arsterdamm industrial park in 2011 was also a milestone in the company's history. SCHIERHOLZ examines the quality of all the components/subassemblies and processes, tests customer requirements and develops its conveyor systems both mechanically and in terms of control systems to market maturity at this test facility.
