The company's partnership with the Institute of Biomolecular Chemistry of the National Research Council of Sassari grows.

The attention to ecological issues, to the quality of production processes and products has convinced Verinlegno to sign an agreement with the Institute of Biomolecular Chemistry of the National Research Council of Sassari (Italy), directed by Professor Mauro Marchetti. A meeting in part casual and in part lucky, motivated by the will to move towards the large Chinese market, is rich with possible developments.

The first agreement from the cooperation between the company of Massa and Cozzile and the prestigious research institute is coming to a conclusion these days. The relationship with the National Research Council has produced practical and immediately tangible results in just six months. The company's ability to evaluate the basic materials has greatly improved (resins, solvents, additives) and also the awareness on the quality of paint products has matured. New opportunities were made possible, starting from the purchase of tools necessary for controls and calibration. The passage from a total confidence in suppliers to a conscious analysis of the materials offered by them, changes and improves the nature of the relationship with suppliers. The commitment to research and development proved by the strong internal structure of the R&D laboratory and the attention to ecological issues, now leads to the development of the relationship with the CNR in the area of the research on biocides, active substances capable of preventing aggression by insects, mold and microorganisms in general. The European and international regulations constantly tend to limit their use. The search for innovative products, for sustainable raw materials, for low VOC processes (volatile organic compounds) are in the DNA of the company. That is why other aspects of the collaboration will be the green and the nanoparticles.

Verinlegno has always been able to provide its customers with special solutions, paints and effects that other manufacturers, maybe bigger, were not able to offer. The research based on experience, result of the high creativity of the internal laboratory and the daily will to solve problematic situations proposed by its customers, finds a major support in the CNR. The research will be structured and strategic, aimed at finding solutions to the thorniest problems that occur with painted surfaces. It is like saying that the original excellence of the company becomes square excellence, thanks to the role played by the Institute of Chemistry of Professor Marchetti. The possibility of access to the European funding program "Horizon 2020" sponsored by the European Commission and aimed at supporting research for SMEs, will be crucial in this context.

Meanwhile, as has been pointed out in the 2nd Formulation Day, held in Milan (Italy), in Federchimica, on the 19th of May, the example of Verinlegno will be followed by a pool of 15 companies in the chemical field, which until recently considered virtually impossible to establish productive relationships with the most advanced research available in Italy of global value. Finally, as Professor Mauro Marchetti commented during the meeting, the veil that has prevented the excellence of SMEs to formulate practical specific questions to subjects such as CNR starts to break down. The CNR also has in its statute, the mission to help businesses respond more appropriately to increasingly urgent market demands and national and international regulations. "The philosophy of Verinlegno has always been research" - said Dr. Marco Rossi from the laboratory analysis of Verinlegno, during the formulation day - "Until now it has been mainly internal. Now we enter a phase of external relationships that enrich us with their theoretical knowledge to allow us to improve our products and grow our market competitiveness. We are developing methods of analysis of raw materials for which there are still, in fact, no rules. We are initiating more targeted analysis to find out which are the chemical characteristics that interact in our formulations, to determine which are those resins or solvents that can optimize our results. Even a single additive may help us in the challenge. In this direction, we believe that an approach capable of mixing science, theoretical knowledge and daily practice, is essential. The relationship with the CNR has brought the company a gust of fresh air, a fervor that we all know will help us improve again in the name of product quality, health and safety of man".
