The acquisition brings together Dörken’s expertise in professional coatings and R&D with J.W. Ostendorf’s manufacturing capabilities and strong presence in the DIY and private label segments.

Dörken has acquired J.W. Ostendorf GmbH & Co. KG (JWO) from Fidelium Partners, marking a significant step in its growth strategy and reinforcing its position in the European paints and coatings industry.

The transaction brings together two German companies with complementary capabilities, combining Dörken’s established portfolio of professional coatings, pigment paste technologies and industrial solutions with JWO’s expertise in architectural paints, private label manufacturing and the DIY market.

The acquisition follows JWO’s transformation under Fidelium Partners, which acquired the company from Danish coatings manufacturer Hempel in 2024. Over the past two years, JWO has undergone organisational, operational and strategic improvements aimed at strengthening efficiency, competitiveness and its long-term growth prospects.

“By bringing together our complementary strengths, we can accelerate innovation, unlock new opportunities and create even greater value for our customers,” has stated Thorsten Koch, Member of the Executive Board of Ewald Dörken AG and CEO of Dörken Coatings.

The integration of the two companies' strengths is expected to create new opportunities across the paints and coatings value chain, particularly in product development, manufacturing efficiency and supply chain operations. Dörken contributes established brands such as LUCITE® and CWS WERTLACK®, extensive research and development expertise, and a strong position in the professional coatings segment. JWO complements these capabilities with its industrial manufacturing infrastructure, private label expertise and established relationships with retail and industrial customers.

Founded in 1948 and headquartered in Coesfeld (Germany), JWO operates a modern manufacturing facility with an annual production capacity exceeding 200 million litres. Its production expertise and logistics infrastructure will play a central role in the group's future development.

Under the new ownership structure, both companies will continue to operate independently, retaining their respective management teams and organisational structures. Dörken's Competence Centre in Herdecke will remain responsible for the development and marketing of professional coatings and the production of pigment pastes, while JWO's Coesfeld facility will continue manufacturing architectural paints. JWO will also expand its role as a manufacturing and logistics platform, making its production capabilities available to a broader range of companies across the paints and coatings industry.
