EcoCortec® has obtained international accreditation for anti-corrosion and humidity chamber testing, strengthening its quality assurance capabilities for VCI/VpCI® packaging solutions.

EcoCortec®, a Croatian manufacturer of corrosion protection packaging and part of Cortec® Corporation, has obtained HRN EN ISO/IEC 17025:2017 accreditation for its testing laboratory. Effective from 5th October 2026 for a five-year period, the accreditation covers anti-corrosion testing according to Cortec® and NACE methods, as well as humidity chamber testing. Awarded following an independent assessment, the accreditation confirms the laboratory's technical competence, impartiality and ability to operate consistently in accordance with internationally recognised requirements.

The ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation represents an important development for EcoCortec®'s quality control activities, particularly in the evaluation of volatile corrosion inhibitor (VCI/VpCI®) packaging materials designed to protect metal components during storage and transportation.

The company's laboratory conducts a range of tests to assess the performance and physical characteristics of protective films. These include corrosion inhibition effectiveness, tensile strength, elongation, tear resistance and electrostatic discharge (ESD) properties. Testing activities also involve procedures based on ASTM standards and military specifications, including MIL-STD-3010.

To support these operations, EcoCortec® has invested in laboratory equipment, including a Plug Polisher for Vapor Inhibiting Ability (VIA) testing according to NACE TM-0208 or Cortec® methods, an Oakland Instrument MT-1528 for tensile strength and elongation testing, and an Elmendorf Tearing Tester.

The accreditation provides an internationally recognised framework for the reliability of testing procedures and results, supporting customers and industrial partners that require documented verification of corrosion protection performance. In addition to conventional VCI/VpCI® packaging, EcoCortec® develops corrosion protection solutions incorporating recyclable, biodegradable, compostable and post-consumer recycled (PCR) materials.

The accredited laboratory supports the company's research and development activities by enabling the evaluation of protective performance and material properties as new packaging formulations are developed. These capabilities are particularly relevant to industrial sectors such as automotive, aerospace and electronics, where corrosion prevention, packaging reliability and material performance are essential requirements.

“This accreditation shows that our testing meets the highest standards. Our clients around the world can be 100% sure about the reliability of every VpCI® product we ship," has stated Boris Miksic, CEO of Cortec® Corporation.

Moreover, the company's VpCI®-126 protective film was recently tested by the German packaging institute BFSV Verpackungsinstitut Hamburg GmbH against the requirements of military standard TL 8135-0043. According to the company, the film met all the specified criteria and achieved Grade 3, the highest classification for corrosion protection performance under the referenced standard. The result provides additional independent verification of the film's protective properties and complements EcoCortec®'s investment in laboratory testing and quality assurance.
