The expansion aims to bolster supply resilience, significantly reduce lead times, and enhance customer service across APAC, currently the world's largest and fastest-growing automotive market.

Global coatings resin supplier allnex has recently announced plans to construct its first Sag Control Agent (SCA) production facility in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region. The strategic investment, located at the company’s existing manufacturing site in Rayong (Thailand).

The facility will feature dedicated reactors to manufacture SCA resins tailored for automotive parts and metal car bodies. The site will accelerate the regional adaptation of next-generation SCA technologies, including high-solid, low-bake, and sustainable solutions.

For forty years, allnex has centralised its SCA manufacturing exclusively at its Bergen op Zoom facility in the Netherlands. However, surging vehicle production and rising demands for premium vehicle finishes have propelled the APAC region to the forefront of global SCA demand.

SCAs are a proprietary, cornerstone technology within allnex’s automotive OEM portfolio. The specialty resins provide critical sag control functionality, enabling coating manufacturers to achieve the ultra-high-gloss, flawless finishes demanded by premium automotive brands.

Beyond securing supply chains, the Rayong facility is designed to support the automotive industry's transition toward greener manufacturing. The next-generation clearcoat systems produced at the site will enable automotive OEMs to:

  • Reduce Energy Consumption: Facilitated by low-bake coating technologies.
  • Lower Volatile Emissions: Supported by advanced high-solid formulations.
  • Optimise Productivity: Allowing manufacturers to streamline painting processes without compromising on premium aesthetics.

“This strategic capacity investment for a unique technology, is driven by our commitment to our customers and their growth ambitions in Asia-Pacific. By localizing SCA production in Thailand, we are responding directly to customer needs for greater supply security, shorter lead times, and faster access to innovation. The new facility will strengthen our ability and agility to support both global and regional customers in APAC and allows us to meet future market demand,” has stated Ruben Mannien, Senior Executive Vice President APAC.
