April in Review

Learn from the Past, Live the Present, Plan the Future. This is the leitmotif that accompanied us during the month of April.

April slumbers. The proverb goes like this. And science seems to agree: our body awakens after the cold winter, answering the call of spring. However, this awakening costs energy and, as a result, we feel more tired and fatigued.

We have to be honest: even the ipcm® editorial office has been affected by the first taste of Spring. Nevertheless, not even Spring's drowsiness could stop us.

On the contrary, April turned out to be one of the most hectic and innovative months. A month that has brought changes and reflections and that had us taking an attentive look at the future.

The main innovation is the publication of a renovated ipcm® Protective Coatings. Our magazine dedicated to corrosion control and prevention technologies has been read all over the world for several years now and for its eighth birthday we decided to give it a makeover, starting with even more attractive, fresh and dynamic graphics.

In addition to the new graphics, we have also decided to publish the magazine only in English. It was a choice guided by the growing internationalization of the magazine's readership and by our will to always keep up with our audience's needs.

Finally, following up on the intention of getting closer to our public, we have launched a new section dedicated to coating inspection, a fundamental process for anyone working in the surface treatment sector.

Infracorr: our answer to a common problem

On August 14, Ponte Morandi collapsed in Genoa, killing 43 people. Since then, there have been debates and discussions regarding the causes of the collapse, with the blame shifting one place to the next due to the many unknowns.

Not all failures or collapses are caused by corrosion, however it represents a serious threat since it is a deceitful phenomenon, as it can be so difficult to spot and evaluate.

Furthermore, structural failures such as the one of the Ponte Morandi are not just an Italian problem: it represents a real danger to Europe and to the rest of the world as well.

So, how to act when dealing with the tens of thousands of bridges built in the 50s and 60s and now at the end of their project life? How to face the growth in the use of heavy vehicles in road transport, pollution and aggressive environmental conditions?

Together with authoritative technical partners, trade associations and training institutions, we will try to address these questions and issues during the Infracorr conference.

The event is scheduled for May 28 at Palazzo Turati in Milan, Italy. We will analyse the possible precautions that can be taken during the design phase, starting from the choice of materials, and we will examine the technological solutions available in order to prevent and protect bridges and infrastructures from corrosion.

Attendance is free (subjected to confirmation) and the event program is available here.

A journey lasting 10 years

While we were adding the finishing touches on Infracorr, a drone flew to take the first shots of our corporate video.

It flew to tell our story - these 10 years of EOS. And it will be precisely on our anniversary that we will finally be able to relive our journey in this first decade with you. A first decade of many to follow. We cannot wait.

Meanwhile, we have already travelled thousands of kilometres throughout Europe, crossing four Spanish regions in two days: Aragón, Navarra, Euskadi and Cantabria.

That is because May will bring three magazines: the specials on automotive and transportation of ipcm® and ipcm® Ibérica/LatinoAmérica, and the ICT insert dedicated to industrial cleaning technologies.
