The new internal diameter HVOF coating developed by Extreme Coatings ensures corrosion protection and abrasive resistance for oil and gas applications.

Extreme Coatings has recently announced the launch of a new internal diameter High Velocity Oxygen Fuel (HVOF) coating system specifically designed for oil and gas and industrial components. The new solutions will be presented at the Offshore Technology Conference that will take place in Huston (U.S.A.) from 2nd to 5th May 2022.

The new product is a high-performance tungsten carbide nano coating for diameters as small as 3-in, lengths up to 8 ft, and thicknesses up to 0.015 of an inch. The internal diameter HVOF coating is 99% porosity-free, corrosion resistant and also crack-free. The IDX system is then particularly suitable for applications within the of oil and gas industry – including housings, cylinders, bushings, sleeves, mechanical seals and hydraulic cylinders.

The thermal spray system consists of a delivery mechanism and coating material that provide a tungsten carbide, cobalt chrome coating capable of offering abrasion resistance and three times the service life of chrome-plated parts.

“The IDX system meets the industry’s growing demand for abrasive, corrosive, and aggressive processing in small-inside diameter applications. This major technology advancement enables us to keep pace with other performance improvements in the downhole drilling industry,” stated said Scott Caplan, the executive vice-president of Extreme Coatings.
