The newly-developed Teroson MS 9381 HPT from Henkel can reduce process time and improved environmental compliance.
Henkel has expanded its range of sustainable adhesive sealants designed for the interior and exterior of heavy equipment and vehicle applications. The new product, Teroson MS 9381 HPT, is a tin-free, silane-modified polymer (SMP) adhesive sealant that aims to simplify manufacturing processes while meeting stringent environmental and safety standards.
The formulation is designed to address the evolving demands of the heavy equipment industry, specifically targeting the need for greater efficiency and rigorous adherence to sustainability targets.
By eliminating substances of very high concern, including tin, solvents, isocyanates, silicones, and PVC, Henkel has developed a product that prioritises both human health and regulatory compliance.
Beyond its environmental profile, the adhesive is engineered for operational efficiency:
- Process Simplification: The product is a single-component, primeless adhesive. It reduces the application process to two steps, compared to the three steps typically required for conventional polyurethane (PU) materials.
- Superior Handling: With high thixotropic properties and 'High Position Tack' (HPT), the sealant is easier to handle, reducing the risk of application errors.
- Operational Versatility: As a multi-substrate compatible solution, it can be used across various applications—such as side paneling, roof skin bonding, and cabin window glazing, allowing manufacturers to consolidate their inventory and simplify supply chains.
Henkel has validated the environmental impact of the new sealant using its internal reporting tool, HEART (Henkel Environmental Assessment Reporting Tool). According to the manufacturer, Teroson MS 9381 HPT can potentially reduce CO2 emissions by up to 50% from 'cradle to gate' when compared to traditional PU processes.
