Venator has successfully met a major waste reduction goal six years ahead of its original 2030 deadline.

Venator has reached a key environmental milestone six years ahead of schedule, reducing the generation of non-hazardous waste by nearly 100,000 tonnes. The target, originally set for 2030, was confirmed in the company’s newly published 2024 Sustainability Report, released on World Environment Day.

The report highlights a series of sustainability achievements over the past year, reaffirming Venator’s commitment to environmental responsibility, transparency, and long-term value creation. It includes measurable progress aligned with global standards such as the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), including reductions in greenhouse gas emissions, water usage, and progress towards circular economy objectives.

Operational improvements and strategic reuse of co-products were instrumental in reaching the waste reduction target early. Across its operations, Venator focused on recovering, reusing, and recycling by-products wherever possible. Notably, the company achieved 100% beneficial use of non-hazardous waste and co-products at its facilities in Huelva (Spain) and Uerdingen (Germany). In Malaysia, 98% of the copperas by-product generated at its PIP plant in Teluk Kalong was either reused or sold.

In addition to waste reduction, Venator has also outlined a phased plan to decarbonise its operations, starting with its site in Greatham (United Kingdom). A recent infrastructure study explored the use of hydrogen as a replacement for natural gas, positioning Greatham to potentially become one of the lowest carbon footprint production sites in the titanium dioxide sector.

“Throughout 2024, we built a solid foundation for delivering on our sustainability strategy – strengthening our data and reporting processes as we look to a more stable and resilient future. During this transitional year, we reached several key milestones that demonstrate our drive for continuous improvement and innovation. Our latest Sustainability Report highlights the progress we’ve made towards our 2030 goals and the steps we’re taking to deliver lasting value to our business and stakeholders. I’d like to thank everyone who has supported us on this journey,” Bryan Snell, President and Chief Executive Officer of Venator.
