The new extruders, thermoplastics and bonding processes will enable AkzoNobel to strengthen its position in the American paints and coatings market.

The global paints and coatings supplier AkzoNobel has boosted the production capacity at its four powder coating facilities in America. To that end, the company is incorporating new extruders, thermoplastics and bonding processes into its facilities in Reading (Pennsylvania, USA), Warsaw (Indiana, USA), Nashville (Tennessee, USA) and Monterrey (Mexico).

The company will increase the production efficiency and application capacity of powder coatings, helping to maximise the versatility and long-term sustainability performance of its solutions. In addition to this, it follows recent investments in powder production in Como (Italy) and at the site in Vietnam.

“As customers continue to prioritize sustainability, durability and performance, the demand for powder coatings is projected to escalate. By staying ahead of the curve and investing in these advanced technologies, we’re positioning ourselves as a leader in this thriving market, driving innovation and delivering value to customers in North America and around the globe,” has explained Jeff Jirak, Global Director of AkzoNobel’s Powder Coatings business.

The installation of innovative thermoplastic materials in the formulation of powder coatings will open up new possibilities for different applications and performance improvements. An effective bond between the pigment particles and the resin matrix is key to achieving durable and aesthetically pleasing powder coatings, while advanced extruders will enable real-time adjustments and maintain precise control over the extrusion process.
