Bolstering the Chinese production capacities will enable AkzoNobel to significantly improve operational efficiency and production of paints and coatings.

The international paints and coatings supplier AkzoNobel has enhanced the production line of its Chinese site in Suzhou, as part of a €14 million investment aimed at accelerating growth.

This initiative is set to increase the capacity for marine and protective coatings by over 40%. Furthermore, the company plans to add three more production lines, effectively doubling the overall capacity before the conclusion of next year.

“The continuous investments in Suzhou reaffirm our commitment to delivering the best solutions, quality and service to our customers. The strategic enhancements we’re making will also enable us to adapt faster to the dynamic Chinese market,” has added Simon Parker, Director of AkzoNobel’s Marine and Protective Coatings.

The Chinese demand for marine and protective coatings is growing, with a particular focus on high-performance antifouling coatings and wind energy solutions, such as the company's International, Intersleek, RELEST and Chartek products. Moreover, AkzoNobel plans to accelerate Suzhou's transition to using 100% renewable electricity by 2025, which will contribute to the company's ambition to halve carbon emissions across the entire value chain by 2030.

“Improving production at the Suzhou site is another great example of the progress we’re making towards strengthening our business portfolio. The significant leap in site efficiency and capacity will elevate our local production and supply chain capability, which is essential in terms of responding to the ever-evolving market,” has added Karen-Marie Katholm, AkzoNobel’s Chief Integrated Supply Chain Officer.
