New Facility Construction in China

The Mobility Business Unit of Axalta has announced the beginning of the construction works of a new facility for the automotive sector.

The global supplier of liquid and powder coatings Axalta has announced the beginning of the construction works for the new coatings facility of its Mobility Business Unit in Jilin City (China). The new plant will cover an area of 46,000 m2 in order to support the growing Chinese market demands for light vehicles, commercial vehicles, and automotive plastic components.

“Our new plant in Jilin is another building block supporting our ambitious growth strategy for our mobility business in China,” stated Nicolas Franc de Ferrière, Vice President, Mobility, Asia Pacific at Axalta.

The new plant, scheduled to open during 2021, will mainly manufacture primers, basecoats and clearcoats for Axalta’s eco-friendly processes such as high solids technology. Formulated with the aim of reducing VOC emissions, the company’s high solids coatings allow clients to lower the environmental impact of their production processes while also providing quality finishes and improved productivity for automotive OEMs.

“Axalta came to Jilin province in 1984 to serve the burgeoning automotive industry in China and has since established a strong presence across the APAC region supporting major OEMs. With this new investment in the province, we are further committing to our customers in China while supporting our ambitious growth plans in Asia,” commented the Senior Vice President of Axalta's Mobility Business Hadi Awada.

Since the beginning of the operations in the Chinese market, Axalta has been committed to promote growth and investments by emphasising innovation and sustainability. The new facility represents then a further step towards these goals, supported also by the expansion of a waterborne coatings plant in Shanghai, the opening of a new Refinish Training Center in Guangzhou, and the acquisition of a Chinese producer of high-quality wire enamels.
