The enhanced version of Dürr’s robot system allows an overspray-free painting of complex body parts.

Dürr has announced the launch of an enhanced version of the EcoPaintJet Pro robot system, that can now automatically paint and apply custom design elements to extremely complex body surfaces such as vertical or A and C pillars, without masking.

The design requirements for two-tone paint jobs in car manufacturing, such as contrasting colours on roof surfaces or A and C pillars, stripe designs and intricate elements like letterings, are ever-increasing. So, manufacturers need flexibility in order to apply contrasting paint jobs with different colours and paint types on diverse surfaces without needing the body design to be changed or hindering the manufacturing process while keeping costs low. The interaction of high-tech paint application components, robotics and software of EcoPaintJet Pro improves precision and energy efficiency, while also reducing wasted materials.

EcoPaintJet Pro is suitable for solvent and water-based 1C and 2C paints and includes an overspray-free applicator. In addition, it automatically checks the spray pattern, uses camera-based sensors for measuring the body and adapts the painting programme to the actual vehicle.

“Our process involves no overspray and no masking, even for vertical surfaces. In terms of cost efficiency and sustainability, Dürr has taken another step in the right direction with the EcoPaintJet,” stated Lars Friedrich, the president & CEO of Application Technology Dürr Systems AG.
