AkzoNobel’s newly developed Dual Coat powder coating offers superior protection against corrosion and everyday wear for springs and other key automotive components, enhancing overall vehicle safety.
The international paints and coating supplier AkzoNobel
has recently announced the launch of its latest innovation in protective coatings for the automotive industry: Interpon Dual Coat, a next-generation, sustainable powder coating within its Interpon A1000 range.
Specifically developed for use on coil springs and other vital automotive components, the new Dual Coat system delivers exceptional protection against corrosion and everyday wear caused by road debris, chips, and stones. Its enhanced performance is designed to extend the service life of suspension springs and reduce the risk of mechanical failure, contributing to improved vehicle safety and reduced maintenance costs.
“This is a significant achievement for the automotive coatings industry. Our new solution not only meets but exceeds the challenging performance standards set by the world's leading automotive manufacturers, while also providing cost efficiency gains at the coating line. It demonstrates Interpon’s ability to create products that balance exceptional performance, with the need for even greater sustainability,” has stated Gustavo Carvalho, Automotive Key Account Management and Segment Director, AkzoNobel Powder Coatings.
A standout feature of the new system is its zinc-free primer formulation. Unlike traditional zinc-based coatings, the absence of zinc minimises wear on application equipment, resulting in a more sustainable production process. The primer’s lower density also means less material is required, helping manufacturers lower their overall coating costs and boost competitiveness. In addition, the product is free from Bisphenol A (BPA), offering safer handling and transport globally.
Interpon Dual Coat meets the most demanding industry standards and has successfully passed extensive trials conducted by a leading global spring manufacturer. Its proven ability to withstand challenging road conditions makes it an ideal solution for the future of automotive component protection.
Part of AkzoNobel’s trusted Interpon A1000 series, Dual Coat not only shields components from harsh weather but also offers resistance to fuel, battery acids, and other aggressive substances typically encountered in automotive environments. Widely used on critical parts such as engine blocks, suspension systems, and brake components, the Interpon A1000 range is renowned for its reliability and performance.
