Kevin Biller will continue to advance the powder coating industry through his leadership and expertise at ChemQuest Powder Coating Research.
The ChemQuest Group is delighted to announce that Kevin Biller, Director of ChemQuest Powder Coating Research, was inducted into the Powder Coating Institute (PCI) Hall of Fame.
“Kevin Biller has been a trailblazer in the powder coating industry for nearly five decades, beginning his career in 1978 with the Glidden Paint Company. A holder of multiple patents, he pioneered powder coatings for non-metal substrates and UV-curable technologies. Kevin has played a key role in industry education, serving on PCI’s Regulatory and Technical Committees, contributing to the fourth edition of the Powder Coating Handbook, and leading the PCI Scholarship Committee. As technical editor for Powder Coated Tough, he authored numerous articles,” has stated Kevin Coursin, PCI’s Executive Director, during the induction ceremony.
Following his tenure at Glidden, Biller held leadership roles at several companies over his extensive career before founding the Powder Coating Research Group, which was acquired by The ChemQuest Group in 2021. Known globally for his “Ask Joe Powder” column and podcast, he has authored over 300 articles on powder coatings. In 2004, he published Powder Coatings: Foundation for the Novice Formulator.
“I am honoured to receive this recognition from the Powder Coating Institute and its board of directors. During my time at Glidden, owned by SCM—a conglomerate which also owned Smith-Corona typewriters—I learned a vital lesson: Innovation and commercial success depend on thinking outside the box. Smith-Corona made arguably the finest typewriter in history, yet these remarkable machines became obsolete in just a few years as personal computers took hold. This experience helped me realise that the next wave of industrial coating technology wouldn’t arise from incremental changes to solvent-borne coatings, but rather from an innovative, outside-the-box technology known as powder coatings. As they say, the rest is history,” has commented Kevin Biller.
“Kevin’s commitment to advancing the powder coating industry is unparalleled. Throughout his career, he has tirelessly worked to drive technological progress and expand opportunities across the powder coating value chain. We are grateful to the Powder Coating Institute for recognising his achievements with this well-deserved honour,” has added Daniel Murad, CEO of ChemQuest.
