Chemspec Europe 2025 is taking place at the Cologne Exhibition Centre (Germany) from 4th to 5th June 2025.
LANXESS will showcase its broad range of innovative and sustainable solutions at Chemspec Europe 2025 - placing a strong focus on its innovative and sustainable offerings for the paints and coatings industry.
Biocides for Paint Preservation
LANXESS offers a robust range of biocidal solutions designed to ensure long-term stability and microbial resistance in paints and coatings. These biocides provide in-can protection by inhibiting the growth of bacteria, fungi, and algae, helping to maintain product quality even under challenging storage conditions.
Formulations such as BIOBAN, KATHON, and ROCIMA are approved under the US EPA’s FIFRA regulations and have proven effectiveness in water-based systems. Their low VOC profiles
make them ideal for environmentally responsible paint formulations, supporting customers in complying with increasingly stringent environmental regulations.
High-Purity Benzoic Acid for Film Quality and Corrosion Resistance
Benzoic acid from LANXESS, particularly the high-purity Purox B grade, is widely used in the production of alkyd resins. In these applications, it serves as a chain terminator and contributes to the gloss, hardness, adhesion, and chemical resistance of the final coating. Additionally, it enhances corrosion protection and prevents flash rust in architectural and automotive coatings. Purox B is certified under leading ecolabels such as the EU Ecolabel, COSMOS, and Nordic Swan, supporting sustainable formulation goals.
Benzyl Alcohol: A Versatile Solvent and Coalescent
LANXESS’ benzyl alcohol plays a multifunctional role in coatings. As a high-purity solvent and coalescent, it aids in film formation and stability while providing a mild, pleasant odour. The NF/FCC and Parenteral grades of benzyl alcohol ensure the product is suitable for sensitive formulations, including coatings for medical and high-tech applications.
Sustainable Benzaldehyde for Epoxy Coatings
Benzaldehyde is gaining popularity in the coatings sector as a non-reactive diluent in epoxy resin formulations. It reduces system viscosity and enhances flexibility without compromising performance. LANXESS has committed to sustainable production by certifying five of its sites under ISCC+ and adopting the mass balance method. These practices significantly reduce the carbon footprint
of benzaldehyde while maintaining its premium quality — all calculated according to ISO 14067 and validated by TÜV Rheinland.
Polymer Additives for Performance and Protection
LANXESS supplies a diverse range of polymer additives that boost the performance of paints and coatings. These include flame retardants, hydrolysis stabilisers, plasticisers, and colourants, all designed to enhance durability, appearance, and functional properties. Bromine and phosphorus-based intermediates are crucial for creating advanced, protective coatings used in construction, industrial, and automotive sectors.
Ion Exchange Resins for Coating Raw Material Purification
The Lewatit ion exchange resins by LANXESS play an important role in the purification of coating ingredients, helping ensure high purity levels required for consistent film quality and chemical resistance. The Lewatit Scopeblue series, developed with up to 60% lower CO₂ emissions, enables coatings manufacturers to integrate sustainability into their supply chains.
