AkzoNobel and Volotea have collaborated to develop a unique design with a metallic colour scheme.

AkzoNobel has cooperated with Volotea to develop and apply a new design to the livery its aircraft, in order to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the company. The airline of Europe's medium-sized cities required a partner to help deliver a striking one-off livery to celebrate a decade in business.

The design applied to one Volotea A320 aircraft features a metallic colour scheme as a symbol to reflect the next ten years of the business as well as the name of Lazaro Ros, one of the airline’s co-founders, beneath the cockpit.

The colour technicians from AkzoNobel have been working closely with the engineering and branding departments of Volotea and also the paint team at MAAS Aviation for eight weeks, in order to create three special effect and two solid colours for the basis of the design. The colour gradient has been achieved using five shades: Volotea Red, Tabasco Red, Satin Beige and two further metallic colours specifically formulated for the project with reference to AkzoNobel’s Inspirational Color Elements card.

“We are proud to have played our part is helping Volotea celebrate its 10th Anniversary with such a striking livery. It was a challenge to meet the deadline, especially in creating new colors from scratch, but the results speak for themselves. We look forward to continuing our partnership for many years to come,” has stated Jordi Mercadé from AkzoNobel Aerospace Coatings.

In addition to this one-off livery, 33 other Volotea aircrafts have already been protected and enhanced using the coatings of AkzoNobel. The paints used, all Airbus approved, includes the Primer LV2114 and the Aerobase three-component basecoat with the specified polyurethane clear topcoat Aviox Clearcoat UVR to provide a durable, protective and decorative finish that exceeds typical OEM requirements for exterior aircraft performance.

“We are delighted to have chosen AkzoNobel for such an important project. We trust the finish and durability of their paint products, which are already proven in our fleet, and we are grateful for their support which has been crucial on making it happen in a very short time, from delivery of the aircraft to its entry into service,” has commented Marc Noguera, the Reliability Manager at Volotea.
