BASF condemns the war against Ukraine and will only maintain the business that supports food production.

BASF has recently announced that it will gradually stop its businesses in Russia and Belarus, as it condemns the Russian war against Ukraine and the violence against the civilian population.

The company had already donated £1 million to provide humanitarian aid and stated that it would not have started new operations in Russia. However, the Board of Executive Directors of BASF SE has now decided to also wind down the remaining activities in Russia and Belarus by the beginning of July 2022. Exempt from this decision is business line that supports food production, as the war risks triggering a global food crisis.

Currently, there are 684 employees working for BASF in Russia and in Belarus and the company will continue to support them until end of the year. Detailed plans for an orderly cessation of BASF’s business in Russia and Belarus are currently being developed.
