The company will supply the surface preparation tool Bristle Blaster to the MoD for use in maintaining Royal Navy ships and submarines.

Cactus Industrial has received an order from the UK Ministry of Defense for a number of machines using the Bristle Blaster technology, a hand-held surface preparation tool that blasts without grit.

The purchase order was placed after the Bristle Blaster technology went through extensive trials at Her Majesty's Naval Base at Portsmouth. Cactus is the sole licensed UK and Ireland distributor for Bristle Blaster, made by the firm MONTI – Werkzeuge GmbH.

Cactus Industrial has deployed members of staff to deliver training to navy personnel and contractors in the effective use of the Bristle Blaster technology in preparing surfaces affected by the marine environment.

Chief executive of Cactus Industrial Jamie Gallagher said: "Bristle Blaster technology is uniquely suited to maintaining valuable Royal Navy assets including ships and submarines. We have now trained and educated Royal Navy personnel in how to use the Cactus Bristle Blaster for optimal surface preparation for maintaining the UK's sea-going fleet".

He added: "Blasting without grit technology is one of the most effective ways of ensuring that Royal Navy ships and submarines are prepared to face the harsh marine environment with as little downtime as possible."

Paul Waugh, Warrant Officer Class 1, Royal Navy, said: "A classroom introduction with hands-on training showed how correct surface conditions are achievable so preservation efforts become more effective - thus improving the material state of the platforms. Cactus Industrial's Bristle Blaster technology will considerably reduce time and improve preservation efforts during a base maintenance period (BMP)."
