The solution developed by Cortec is the first bio-based corrosion inhibiting concrete admixture to receive the CE certification.

Cortec® Corporation has recently announced that the MCI®-2005 is the first bio-based, organic corrosion inhibiting concrete admixture to receive the CE Certificate, indicating conformity with health, safety and environmental protection standards for products sold within the European Economic Area (EEA).

The certificate has been issued by the IGH Institute, a Croatian company specialised in civil engineering professional services and scientific research with laboratories accredited for over 600 test methods. The institution had conducted extensive testing on Cortec’s MCI 2005 technology before issuing the certificate. At the end of 2021, the MCI-2005 inhibiting concrete admixture also passed the ASTM G180 protocol under ISO 17025 accredited testing.

This product allows to protect metallic reinforcement in concrete structures by delaying set time, making the concrete easier to work with and reducing the heat of hydration. For this reason, engineers selected MCI-2005 to protect the Kinnet Tunnel in Israel, while also maintaining sustainability at the same time.
