ECKART Launches VERSALAN: A Next-Generation Aluminum Pigment Preparation for Efficient and Safe Processing

Date: 01/07/2026

Positioned as the successor to HYDROLAN® BG and PG grades, VERSALAN is suitable for water- or solventborne, UV-curable - combining performance, safety, and sustainability.

ECKART introduces VERSALAN, a next-generation aluminum pigment preparation based on high-purity, flake-shaped pigments with an inorganic SiO₂ coating. Building on HYDROLAN® technology, it addresses increasing performance, regulatory, and sustainability requirements in modern coating systems.

  • Direct dispersibility in water – no pre-wetting or solvents required.
  • Dust-free, low-VOC (< 5%) format improves safety and handling.
  • Not classified as dangerous goods, simplifying logistics and reducing costs.

Delivered as a free-flowing, dust-free powder, VERSALAN enables clean handling, precise dosing, and reliable processing, supporting efficient production across industries. VERSALAN can be dispersed directly in water without pre-wetting or solvent pre-mixing and can be added at any stage of production. This reduces process steps, shortens production times, and allows precise adjustments of color and metallic effects while lowering solvent use.

Optimized flow properties and a tailored additive package ensure excellent wetting and improved flowability compared to conventional aluminum pastes. This results in cleaner processes, reduced contamination risk, and consistent product quality.

With VOC content below 5% and no classification as dangerous goods, VERSALAN supports safer handling, simplified transport, and regulatory compliance. Low flammability further improves safety and eliminates the need for hazardous-material logistics. Solvent-free transport reduces logistics complexity and costs. Improved wetting and high aluminum content support efficient pigment utilization.

Available in multiple particle sizes, VERSALAN enables metallic effects from intense sparkle to structureless effects. It is suitable for automotive OEM and refinish coatings, industrial coatings, plastics, UV-curable systems, and processes such as RIM, FIM, and wrapping.
