The Singapore initiative supports Nouryon’s broader climate objectives, which include a 40% absolute reduction in Scopes 1 and 2 emissions by 2030 from a 2019 baseline, and the ambition to become a net-zero organisation by 2050.
Nouryon
has successfully commissioned rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) systems at its two production sites on Jurong Island (Singapore), marking the completion of its first onsite solar initiative and power purchase agreement (PPA) in the country. The project, developed and installed by EDP Renewables APAC (EDP), represents a significant step in Nouryon’s global sustainability strategy.
With a combined capacity of 250 kilowatt-peak (kWp), the solar PV systems will supply renewable energy to the company’s quaternary ammonium compound and alkoxylation production units. The installation will contribute to a reduction in Nouryon’s Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions. The project follows the signing of a 14-year PPA with EDP in July 2024, reinforcing Nouryon’s long-term commitment to renewable energy adoption and industrial decarbonisation.
“At Nouryon, we are committed to reducing our greenhouse gas emissions across the value chain – a core pillar of our Carbon Business Strategy. This development marks another milestone in our global efforts to reduce our environmental impact, while supporting our customers in meeting their sustainability targets by delivering lower-carbon solutions,” has stated Eduardo Nardinelli, Senior Vice-President, South America & Global Carbon Business Strategy.
Nouryon’s Carbon Business Strategy takes a long-term approach, centred around achieving operational excellence, increasing the use of renewable energy at its sites, fostering innovation, and engaging value chain partners to minimise indirect emissions.
“This commissioning represents an important achievement for our team in Singapore and across the wider region. By harnessing solar energy, we are strengthening our regional presence and reaffirming our commitment to delivering sustainable solutions that support both customer and environmental goals,” has added Sobers Sethi, Senior-Vice President, Emerging Markets and China.
