Lesta has operated in this market for years with numerous active installations, offering robotic solutions that guarantee consistent quality, absolute precision, and high production efficiency, even on the complex geometries typical of mortuary caskets.

Automated casket painting with Lesta Paint Studio 3.0 allows funeral product manufacturers to operate with maximum efficiency and precision. In fact, painting caskets is one of the most complex processes in the industry, but at the same time one of the most suitable for the use of industrial painting robots.

Painting automation for caskets and funeral items

As previously mentioned, one of the markets that can benefit the most from automation is the funeral manufacturing sector, particularly companies producing:

  • caskets
  • cremation urns
  • decorations and components for funeral products

Lesta’s system is based on an industrial painting robot that operates fully autonomously, managing the complete coating process of both the casket and the lid, internally and externally.

The geometry of a casket is complex and requires a high level of precision when defining the painting path. For this reason, the cycle is programmed using the dedicated Lesta Paint Studio software. Once the path has been created, the entire process becomes fully automated.

How the Lesta robotic system for casket painting works

The demonstration video shows how the Lesta robot manages the entire production cycle without any human intervention:

  1. Automatically positions the casket, complete with lid, in front of the painting station
  2. Coats all internal and external surfaces with absolute precision
  3. Moves the finished casket away, freeing the station for the next unit

The result is a continuous, repeatable, and highly reliable process, ideal for casket manufacturers aiming to increase productivity while maintaining high quality standards.

Lesta Paint Studio: CAD/CAM software for offline programming of painting robots

Lesta PAINT STUDIO is an offline programming software for painting robots, specifically designed to handle even the most complex geometries, such as caskets.

This CAD/CAM software enables users to create, simulate, and optimize painting paths directly from the engineering office, without stopping the production line or physically moving the robot.

Interactive 3D environment and complete simulation

The Lesta Paint Studio interface is built around an interactive 3D environment, enabling users to:

  • import 3D models of parts to be painted
  • create painting paths using intuitive tools
  • generate automatic grids on surfaces
  • automatically link different painting paths
  • view the environment in 360°
  • simulate the robot cycle, checking reachability and cycle times

For each painting path, a wide range of parameters can be adjusted, including:

  • speed and acceleration
  • gun-to-part distance
  • paint gun settings
  • application angle

The entire paint booth can also be imported for a realistic simulation of the system.

The software can be integrated with non-Lesta robots and is compatible with liquid painting and powder coating processes.

Benefits for casket manufacturers

Adopting a robotic painting system enables casket manufacturers to achieve a consistent and uniform finish, regardless of surface complexity. Automation of the process also significantly reduces production times, enhancing overall plant efficiency and boosting production capacity.

With offline programming and precise control of painting parameters, operational errors and rework are greatly minimized, ensuring higher process reliability. At the same time, the system’s flexibility makes it easier to manage different models, custom finishes, and small to medium production runs, providing companies with a versatile solution that can adapt quickly to market demands.
