BASF Launches Efka® PX 4720: Advancing Ultra-Matte UV Coatings

Date: 13/05/2026

Designed for 100% solvent-free radiation-curing systems, the additive ensures that ultra-matte performance does not come at the cost of processability. Its primary applications include industrial coatings, and 3C coatings (Computer, Communication, and Consumer electronics).

At the American Coatings Show 2026, BASF’s Performance and Formulation Additives department officially unveiled Efka® PX 4720. This new high-performance dispersing agent is specifically engineered for solvent-free, ultra-matte UV coating formulations.

Innovative CFRP Technology

The Efka® PX 4720 is developed using Controlled Free Radical Polymerization (CFRP) technology. This process allows for the creation of precisely defined acrylic block copolymers. This advanced structure provides several key benefits for formulators:

  • Viscosity Reduction: Delivers a significant decrease in viscosity.
  • Matting Efficiency: Enables high matting efficiency and low gloss.
  • Stability: Maintains excellent formulation stability, even when used with very high concentrations of silica matting agents.
