Highly-Functional Material Week to Debut in Nagoya as Japan’s New Hub for Advanced Materials and Coatings

Date: 21/01/2026

The new event will showcase innovations ranging from advanced polymer dyeing and functional coatings to sustainable materials such as oyster shell composites and cutting-edge photonics technologies, bringing together industry leaders in one of Japan’s key manufacturing centres.

RX Japan will launch the first-ever Highly-Functional Material Week Nagoya from 18–20 February 2026 at Port Messe Nagoya (Japan) – extending one of the country’s leading exhibition series for advanced materials, coatings and photonics into the Chubu region.

The debut in Nagoya marks a significant milestone for the long-running exhibition series, which already has a strong international presence in Tokyo and Osaka. The expansion aims to better serve manufacturers and technology developers based in central Japan, home to major automotive, aerospace and advanced manufacturing companies with growing demand for high-performance surface technologies.

“We’re excited to bring Highly-Functional Material Week to Nagoya. This region is a major force in Japan’s manufacturing and innovation, making it an ideal location for showcasing advanced materials and technologies. Exhibitors and attendees can expect productive dialogue and strong opportunities for collaboration in an industrial powerhouse such as Nagoya,” has stated Katsutoshi Tsuchiya, Show Director at RX Japan.

Highly-Functional Material Week Nagoya will feature a comprehensive lineup of specialised exhibitions covering key areas of the materials ecosystem, with a strong emphasis on paints, coatings and surface engineering. In particular, Paint & Coating JAPAN will spotlight next-generation coating technologies, including functional and smart coatings, corrosion-resistant solutions, eco-friendly formulations, and surface treatments for automotive, aerospace, electronics and construction applications.

Other co-located events include Mobility Material Expo, focusing on materials and coatings for vehicles, aircraft, drones, rail systems and shipbuilding, where lightweight composites and high-durability coatings play a crucial role in performance and sustainability. The Sustainable Material Expo will highlight environmentally focused materials, low-VOC coatings and circular manufacturing, while Material DX Expo will showcase digital tools for accelerating material and coating development through simulation, data analytics and AI.

Highly-Functional Material Week Nagoya is expected to provide visitors with opportunities to explore the latest coating and surface technologies, engage with industry experts, form partnerships and gain insight into how advanced materials and functional coatings will shape industrial competitiveness in the coming years.
