The reopening signals Stahl’s long-term commitment to innovation, sustainable production and growth across India and beyond, positioning the Ranipet facility as a central hub for developing high-performance coatings for global markets.

Stahl has officially reopened its advanced coatings facility in Ranipet (India), marking a significant milestone in the company’s strategic transformation and reinforcing its commitment to the Indian market – one of the world’s fastest-growing economies.

The site, originally launched in April 2000 and closed in 2019, returns to operation following the company’s divestment of its wet-end activities. It will now focus on leather finishing, performance coatings and packaging coatings.

The upgraded facility consolidates production, R&D, application laboratories and testing capabilities under one roof, enabling faster development cycles, closer customer collaboration and enhanced capability to co-innovate with partners. Stahl plans to further strengthen the site’s manufacturing and R&D capabilities in line with market opportunities.

India remains a key growth market across all three of Stahl’s business segments. Local manufacturing supports the company’s ‘local for global’ approach, improving service to regional and international customers through increased agility and proximity.

“The reopening of our Ranipet site is an important milestone in Stahl’s transformation journey. This investment reflects our strategic focus and aligns our capabilities with future market demands. Being able to produce locally in India – an essential growth market – strengthens our position and enables us to better support our customers with tailored, innovative solutions,” said Maarten Heijbroek, CEO of Stahl.

The modernised facility incorporates advanced automation and a closed-loop wastewater treatment system, achieving zero liquid discharge and meeting stringent environmental and safety standards. Approximately 140 employees will return to the site, many of whom have been with the company since the early 2000s.

“Ranipet has always been a special place for Stahl, and its reopening is both a homecoming and a new beginning. Our dedicated professionals have the expertise and passion to drive customer success both in India and worldwide. This modern, sustainable facility strengthens our ability to serve customers locally while contributing to Stahl’s global innovation journey,” has added Ranganath BV, Managing Director – India & Bangladesh.
