Cortec’s advanced VpCI® technology streamlined and enhanced the protection of precision aircraft components for a leading aerospace manufacturer.

In the demanding world of aerospace manufacturing, precision and protection are paramount. Every component must arrive in perfect condition, ready for seamless integration into critical assemblies.

Recognising this, a leading aerospace manufacturer partnered with Cortec® and its trusted distributor Lake Engineering Solutions to optimise the packaging of precision-machined aircraft components. What began as a simple observation during a site visit evolved into a transformative improvement: replacing a two-step, double-bag process with a single Cortec® Cor-Pak® VpCI®-126 Bubble Bag.

This seemingly small adjustment delivered significant results—streamlined operations, reduced handling time, and uncompromised protection against both corrosion and mechanical damage. The success highlights how Cortec®’s advanced VpCI® technology and thoughtful engineering can drive efficiency, consistency, and quality across the aerospace supply chain.

The aerospace client maintains exceptionally strict quality controls to safeguard the integrity of precision-machined metal components used within aircraft wings and doors. These parts required both corrosion protection and mechanical cushioning during the often-unpredictable shipping and handling stages.

Lake Engineering Solutions had already satisfied the corrosion protection requirement using VpCI®-126 Top-Seal bags, which form a molecular layer of Vapour phase Corrosion Inhibitors. This ensures the parts remain dry and installation-ready. To provide mechanical protection, the manufacturer had been placing the sealed parts into standard bubble bags for cushioning before shipment.

During a site visit, Lake Engineering noticed this double-bagging routine and proposed a smarter approach: replace the two-bag method with a single Cortec® Cor-Pak® VpCI®-126 Bubble Bag (also known as VpCI®-126 Bubble Bag with sealable lips). This innovative packaging option offers both cushioning and corrosion protection in one product.

The manufacturer quickly adopted the recommendation, immediately saving time by removing an unnecessary packaging step while still achieving the high protection standards required by company specifications. To further enhance packaging integrity, the aerospace company introduced a rigorous tracking system. This included a non-reuse policy, date monitoring, and colour-coded stickers for clear identification and traceability. These measures ensured consistent, reliable protection and supported the company’s commitment to quality assurance and operational excellence within the aerospace industry.
