The new sustainable digital paint technology Axalta NextJet™ allows two-tone vehicle manufacturers to reduce CO2 emissions by 30%.

The international paints and coatings manufacturer Axalta has recently announced that the company has entered into a partnership with Xaar, a renowned producer of drop-on-demand inkjet technologies, in order to develop and market the sustainable digital paint technology Axalta NextJet™.

“We are excited to announce our partnership with Xaar and introduce Axalta NextJet™ to the market. Our latest innovation is powered by the leading inkjet technology of Xaar and paired with our proprietary paint designed for jetting. This unique market offering builds on our investments in digital paint research and development,” has stated Hadi Awada, the senior vice-president of Mobility at Axalta.

Digital painting is an advanced application method that allows coaters to place paint more precisely. The new technology provides then design flexibility for two-tone vehicles and allows customers to create patterns, details and images in a sustainable way.

Moreover, it eliminates masking and reduces labour, energy and waste while increasing productivity and efficiency rates – contributing to a 30% reduction in CO2 emissions and significant cost savings. The combined technology solution is currently being tested with customers and could be in production as early as 2024.

“Axalta was quick to recognise the unique advantages of our technology for their innovation, making use of our printhead’s ability to handle fluids with viscosities way beyond what has traditionally been possible with inkjet. Together, we do not just deliver the required productivity, but we significantly improve on it,” has declared Graham Tweedale, the Chief Operating Officer of Xaar.
