Carla McBain, the new director of ChemQuest

Carla McBain will help ChemQuest to optimise its business strategy services for the specialty materials industry.

The ChemQuest Group has recently announced that it has appointed a new director: Carla McBain. As a matter of fact, McBain will support the clients of the global consulting firm by focusing on tailored business strategy and optimisation, technology acceleration, market intelligence and advisory services for the specialty materials industry.

McBain possess a solid background in the development of numerous specialty materials, including polymers, latex copolymers and prototype paint formulations. She is also well-versed in emulsion and colloid methodology, computer modelling and statistical experimental design, as well as global regulatory compliance requirements.

During her extensive 35-year career, the new director of ChemQuest has served as a positive change agent in innovation management, developing and commercialising numerous products in a variety of applications and end-use sectors. In addition, she has worked on both buy- and sell-side merger and acquisition analysis initiatives.

McBain hold a Bachelor of Science from the University of Wisconsin at Eau Claire, a Master of Science in organic chemistry from the University of Kansas and a Ph.D. in polymer science from the University of Akron. Furthermore, she is a certified Six Sigma Black Belt, holds four U.S. patents and served as a lecturer at Kent State University and the University of Eastern Michigan. In addition, she covered numerous roles of increasing responsibility with ICI-Glidden and OMNOVA Solutions.

She currently serves as a senior fellow at the University of Akron Research Foundation and is active in numerous professional organisations, including the American Chemical Society, the Federated Coatings Society Cleveland, the American Coatings Association and the Greater Akron Polymer Industry Advisory Council. Most recently, she was the vice-president of Innovations Functional Solutions for Synthomer PLC.
