The focus for 2026 is resilience – the ability to balance stability and versatility. Tree House evokes grounding and security, Ice Water embodies clarity and calm, while Sour radiates optimism and zest for life. Together, the three shades make strength, composure, and confidence visible.
The international paint and coatings manufacturer Mankiewicz has revealed its Colours of the Year for 2026: Tree House, Ice Water, and Sour. The selection highlights how colours and materials mirror social developments.
“In a world undergoing political, social, and technological change, design trends are no coincidence. Our colours are the result of observation and classification in the present social context. They show how the world is changing—and what stories colour can tell,” has stated Nina Karsten, Head of Design at Mankiewicz Coatings
- Tree House – grounding during change
Tree House reflects a search for stability in turbulent times. Its deep brown hue, reminiscent of wood, leather, and coffee, conveys warmth, tranquillity, and a sense of security. Symbolising a return to craftsmanship and authenticity, Tree House seamlessly bridges tradition and modernity. - Ice Water – clarity in action
Ice Water balances contrasts: coolness with activity, concentration with ease. Its metallic sheen, reminiscent of flowing water, represents focus and serenity, addressing the contemporary need for calm amid complexity. The shade combines aesthetic clarity with emotional depth, offering elegance without coldness. - Sour – courage to be joyful
Sour makes a bold statement with its fresh, lively energy. In times dominated by uncertainty, it brings playfulness and optimism. The subtle sheen evokes tangy citrus notes, demonstrating that humour and joie de vivre are as important as structure and function. Sour proves that colour can spark emotion and a zest for life.
