Sun Chemical Launched Two New eXpand!® Stir-in Pigment Preparations for the Coatings Market

Date: 11/09/2023

The new stir-in pigment preparations developed by Sun Chemical are fully compatible with modern automotive waterborne coating systems.

The international pigment manufacturer Sun Chemical has recently launched eXpand!® Yellow ST 1018 and eXpand!® Black ST 9005, two new stir-in pigment preparations fully compatible with modern automotive waterborne coating systems, providing colour depth and enabling and enhanced sparkle, flop and gloss effect. The stir-in capacity paired with a small particle size and narrow distribution makes the pigment preparation easily dispersible, reducing time involved in the production process as opposed to conventional milling methods.

The advanced pigments combine high transparency with an elevated tinting strength, allowing then to create more intensive shades with lower scattering. As a matter of fact, the eXpand! Yellow ST 1018 combines intense chroma with reduced scattering and high transparency which enables the formulation of a new generation of stylings in automotive coatings, while the eXpand! Black ST 9005 stir-in solution delivers jetness and a unique black shade due to reduced scattering.

“Automotive coatings formulators are constantly looking for exciting new colours for their vehicles and we’re thrilled to deliver two new options. The reduced scattering of eXpand! Black ST 9005 and the superior chroma of eXpand! Yellow ST 1018 open up new colour spaces for automotive stylings,” has stated Javier Morcillo-Ruiz, the technical director and senior pigment expert of Sun Chemical.
