This move significantly expands Covestro’s global footprint in the aliphatic isocyanate market.

Materials manufacturer Covestro has finalised the acquisition of two chemical production sites from Vencorex, securing assets in Rayong, Thailand, and Freeport, Texas, USA.

The two facilities specialise in manufacturing hexamethylene diisocyanate (HDI) derivatives. These compounds serve as vital raw materials for advanced polyurethane coatings, sealants, and adhesives. The materials are widely used across high-spec sectors, including automotive, infrastructure protection, aerospace, marine engineering, and consumer electronics.

By absorbing these facilities into its existing asset network across Europe, Asia, and North America, Covestro aims to insulate its supply chains from geopolitical and logistical shocks. The chemical sector has faced persistent supply-chain volatility over recent years, making localized production a key strategic advantage.

“By adding these sites in Thailand and the US, we are strengthening our regional production capabilities and improving our ability to supply customers from locations close to them. Reliable supply, regional availability, and technical expertise are critical for our customers, especially in a challenging market environment,” has noted Thomas Roemer, Head of Coatings and Adhesives at Covestro.

The transaction follows Covestro's previous major portfolio expansion, notably the acquisition of DSM’s Resins & Functional Materials business, signalling the company's aggressive long-term growth strategy within the high-performance coatings segment.
