The 9th edition of the IOT Solutions World Congress (IOTSWC) took place from 13th to 15th May 2025 at Hall 8 of Fira de Barcelona’s Gran Via venue (Spain), gathering 257 exhibitors and over 100 international experts to showcase state-of-the-art solutions aimed at accelerating the digitalisation of the industrial sector.

With 65% of exhibitors coming from outside Spain, IOT Solutions World Congress 2025 reflected strong international participation, particularly from China, Germany, the United States, and France. Leading companies such as AG Solution, Avanci, Edge Impulse, Emnify, STMicroelectronics, LoRa Alliance, and Orange Empresas presented cutting-edge technologies, with a notable emphasis on Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI).

A key area of focus at the congress was semiconductor chip manufacturing, recognised as a fundamental driver of the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT). Several Catalonia-based companies, supported by ACCIÓ, the Catalan Government’s agency for business competitiveness, exhibited their latest developments in this domain.

“IOTSWC, now approaching its tenth anniversary, has successfully brought together a comprehensive sample of the tech ecosystem. Our aim is to enable the industrial sector to adopt solutions for an increasingly interconnected and digital global marketplace,” has stated Roger Bou, Director of IOTSWC.

The IOTSWC Congress hosted around 100 speakers from across the globe, addressing topics such as AIoT—the convergence of Artificial Intelligence and the Internet of Things—which enables devices to analyse data, predict trends, and make autonomous decisions. Key sessions explored themes including the economic return of AI, process optimisation as a pathway to sustainability, the energy transition, and Europe’s strategic position in the global AI race.

A high-profile conference, organised in collaboration with Barcelona & Partners and Barcelona Global, highlighted the EU’s €20 billion investment plan to strengthen AI infrastructure across Europe, through the development of data centres, so-called AI factories, and regulatory simplification to compete with the US and Asia. In parallel, the LoRa Alliance held a dedicated conference to promote the LoRaWAN protocol, showcasing successful industrial use cases and practical implementation strategies of this low-power, long-range wireless communication technology.

As part of its commitment to innovation, IOTSWC once again hosted the Industry Solutions Awards, recognising outstanding achievements in areas such as AI, cybersecurity, connectivity, sustainability, and Industry 4.0. Fifteen finalist projects from Germany, Saudi Arabia, Australia, France, Iran, Spain, and the United Kingdom competed for the awards. The entries ranged from robots for lunar and terrestrial exploration to satellites providing low-cost connectivity, AI systems for infrastructure monitoring, and cybersecurity applications leveraging digital twins.
