Under the new agreement, AkzoNobel’s Marine Coatings business will supply a significant volume of its International® coatings for several drydocking projects scheduled for 2026. The collaboration, which builds on a partnership established in 2016, will focus on six vessels and is expected to improve both operational efficiency and environmental performance across the fleet.

AkzoNobel has expanded its strategic partnership with Winning Shipping in China, aiming to accelerate the maritime sector’s transition towards lower-carbon operations.

Central to the agreement is the application of Intersleek® 1100SR, the world’s first biocide-free fouling control coating featuring patented “slime release” technology. The product is designed to reduce hull resistance, delivering fuel savings and lowering greenhouse gas emissions.

“The outstanding performance of International has been fully validated in our existing fleet, delivering significant fuel savings and enhancing our market competitiveness. This is why we’ve chosen to extend and deepen our partnership. Through this drydocking cooperation, we look forward to more vessels benefiting from these more sustainable advanced technologies, jointly contributing to a greener future for the industry,” has stated Yu Shan, General Manager of Qingdao Winning International Ship Management Co.

The agreement comes as shipping companies respond to stricter emissions regulations introduced by the International Maritime Organization and as China accelerates its “Dual Carbon” strategy, encouraging the adoption of greener technologies across the maritime sector.

“We’re honored to continue and deepen our strategic cooperation. Winning Shipping’s unwavering pursuit of more efficient operations aligns perfectly with our philosophy of helping customers through sustainable innovation. We look forward to providing solid support for the long-term operational efficiency and sustainable development goals of its fleet,” has added Rob Leslie, Commercial Director of AkzoNobel Marine and Protective Coatings in Greater China.

In addition to Intersleek 1100SR, AkzoNobel will also supply Intercept® 8500 LPP, an antifouling coating that combines linear polishing with an optimised biocide package. The product is described as the highest performing antifouling solution in the International® range and is designed specifically for deep-sea vessels.
