Cortec Launches EcoAir 422 Rust Remover

Date: 29/03/2021

Cortec has developed EcoAir VpCI 422, a biodegradable and non-toxic product that provides multi-metal corrosion protection.

To provide an alternative to conventional rust removers, which can be dangerous to use, handle and store, Cortec has developed EcoAir®, a USDA 92% certified, biobased, water-based non-toxic solution that provides multi-metal corrosion protection.

EcoAir 422 removes rust and corrosion from ferrous and non-ferrous metals, preventing flash rusting and helping loosen rust-frozen parts. It is non-flammable and operator-friendly. It doesn’t create waste disposal difficulties nor adverse effects on paints, plastics, wood, textiles, ceramics, or rubber.

EcoAir 422 is packaged in an air-powered spray can, which replaces expensive chemical propellants. This technology features a four-layer EcoPouch filled with the liquid and inserted into a recyclable aluminium can, which is then pressurized. As the valve is depressed the surrounding pressure expels the bag’s internal fluids until the product is used up, making for a safe and easily stored packaging.

Most products in the EcoAir range are derived from sustainable resources. In particular, formulation for EcoAir VpCI 422 has been derived from orange peel (relevant test methods: ASTM F-519 – Mechanical Hydrogen, Embrittlement Evaluation of Plating/Coating Processes and Service Environments; ASTM D-6866-11 – Determination of Biobased Content; OECD Method 301D – Biodegradability).

Fields of application

EcoAir 422 is completely organic and biodegradable. It is ideal for outdoor and marine applications where chemical waste disposal can be a problem. It can be used also in labour-intensive areas such as continuous assembly and packaging lines, minimizing effects on production efficiency. The EcoAir range also comprises the VpCI-422 G, a modification of VpCI-422, which is recommended for galvanized steel.

EcoAir VpCI 422 can be used in a wide variety of applications, such as:

  • In-process rust removal for parts and metal stock
  • Interior and exterior surfaces of tanks and vessels
  • Outdoor machinery and equipment
  • Vehicles, automotive, aircraft and marine equipment.
  • Fences, railings, and walls,
  • Tools, locks, and rust-frozen parts.
