This milestone delivery highlights Dürr’s role as a key partner in the evolution of electric vehicle production, combining innovation, sustainability, and global collaboration.
Dürr is set to deliver its 19,000th painting robot to BYD’s inaugural European plant in Szeged (Hungary). The robot, equipped with the high-speed EcoBell3 rotary atomiser, is designed to deliver exceptional paint quality while advancing sustainable automotive production.
BYD Auto Company Limited, a prominent Chinese manufacturer of new energy vehicles, becomes one of the first Chinese carmakers to establish a manufacturing facility in Europe. Dürr has already supplied more than 120 painting and handling robots to the Hungarian site, providing energy-efficient, environmentally friendly painting solutions for BYD's electric vehicle (EV) range.
The Szeged plant features Dürr’s latest EcoRP series robots, available in both 6-axis and 7-axis configurations. These automate both interior and exterior painting processes. The 7-axis variant is also capable of assisting in opening vehicle bonnets, while the 6-axis robot ensures efficient exterior coverage.
At the heart of the plant’s painting process is Dürr’s EcoBell3 rotary atomiser, which ensures uniform paint application in terms of shade, flow, and layer thickness. This state-of-the-art technology, coupled with rapid colour-change capabilities and low energy consumption, contributes significantly to the plant’s environmental performance. Additionally, BYD’s facility incorporates Dürr’s modular EcoSupply P paint system. This piggable system efficiently returns unused paint to its container, minimising both paint and solvent waste and promoting cost-effective production.
For the precise preparation of complex car body surfaces, Dürr has also customised flexible-action feather roller cleaning robots to thoroughly remove dust and particles.
