Hempel launches Hempaline Defend 430: Solvent-Free Tank Lining Designed to Boost Energy Sector Efficiency

Date: 23/01/2026

Hempaline Defend 430 is a versatile, efficient, and safer solution for operators seeking to optimise tank performance and maintenance schedules.

Hempel A/S has unveiled the latest addition to its Hempaline Defend range: Hempaline Defend 430, a next-generation tank lining engineered to help energy operators enhance efficiency, reduce downtime, and extend maintenance intervals.

The solvent-free epoxy phenolic lining is designed to simplify application, lower energy consumption during installation, and support more sustainable operations by minimising VOC emissions and workplace hazards. Combining rapid curing, single-coat efficiency, and long-term durability, Hempaline Defend 430 allows operators to keep tanks in service longer while reducing overall lifecycle costs.

“After a trial application with a major tank builder, we received clear feedback that the shorter inspection time, compared to their existing lining, will significantly improve output in their workshop. With Hempaline Defend 430, asset owners benefit from a solvent-free lining that can be applied in a single coat, returned to service quickly and approved even for the most sensitive cargos. And with a temperature resistance up to 90°C and strong hydrocarbon resistance, Defend 430 truly offers a versatile one-product solution for storage tanks,” has stated Matthew Fletcher, Segment Development Manager, Linings at Hempel A/S.

Key benefits include:

  • Reduced downtime and energy use, thanks to single-coat application and rapid return to service
  • Improved application safety through a solvent-free formulation, minimising VOCs and occupational hazards
  • Lower lifecycle costs with extended inspection intervals

Technical highlights:

  • Solvent-free epoxy phenolic lining for energy storage tanks
  • Single-coat application at 400 μm (16 mils)
  • Rapid return to service: 3 days at 20°C
