Jotun’s HPS 2.0 marks a major step forward in environmental performance, combining the newly speed-loss verified SeaQuantum X200 with best-in-class technical service, advanced hull condition management and credible performance guarantees.
The global protective coatings supplier Jotun has officially launched the next generation of its renowned Hull Performance Solutions – HPS 2.0 – at Nor-Shipping 2025. This upgraded solution builds on the company’s longstanding expertise in marine coatings, offering a more comprehensive package designed to enhance vessel efficiency and support the shipping industry’s sustainability
goals.
HPS 2.0 combines four key elements - set to provide ship operators with a solution that is Tailored to trade™:
- Jotun’s most advanced antifouling technologies.
- Expert technical service delivered by the industry’s largest team of coatings advisors.
- Intelligent hull condition management.
- Robust, performance-based guarantees.
“We are thrilled to present HPS 2.0, a testament to our Clean Shipping commitment and our focus on innovation that has been ongoing since 1926. This enhanced solution, consisting of products, services, data and our credible performance guarantees is designed to meet the evolving needs of our customers, ensuring optimal hull performance and supporting their ESG ambitions,” has stated Morten Sten Johansen, Global Category Director for Hull Performance at Jotun.
Recognising that different vessels face varying trade patterns and operating conditions, Jotun has developed specific antifouling solutions to meet these distinct challenges:
- For predictable trades – SeaQuantum X200, Jotun’s flagship antifouling product with over 15 years of proven performance across nearly 2,000 deep-sea vessels. Recently, DNV verified its average speed loss of just 1.0%, based on ISO 19030-compliant data analysis – a milestone presented publicly for the first time at Nor-Shipping 2025.
- For high fouling intensity trades – SeaQuantum XT
features the latest ActiCore™ technology. This robust solution utilises a patented binder system and optimised biocide package to consistently protect hulls against aggressive fouling conditions.
- For unpredictable trades – SeaQuest Endura II, a high-performance, tin-free biocidal FRC, employs Flexcure™ technology for superior levelling, faster curing, and improved repairability, ideal for vessels operating under variable conditions.
Jotun presented a new study at Nor-Shipping 2025, highlighting the critical importance of choosing the right antifouling technology. The research revealed that 1 in 5 ship owners are aware they are not currently using the most effective coating
across their fleets. This oversight represents a major opportunity, as enhanced hull performance translates into significant environmental and economic benefits. According to DNV, Jotun-coated vessels helped avoid 11.1 million tonnes of CO₂ emissions in 2024, equating to approximately USD 2 billion in fuel savings.
Jotun also integrates smart performance analytics through its HullKeeper platform. The system collects and analyses key hull performance data in line with ISO 19030, enabling operators to reduce fouling, optimise fuel efficiency, and make data-informed decisions faster and with greater confidence. Complementing this is Jotun’s dock-to-dock guarantee, which ensures consistent performance between dry dockings. This long-term assurance provides operators with peace of mind and underscores the credibility and reliability of the HPS 2.0 system.
“In 2011, we revolutionised the industry with our groundbreaking HPS, moving from promised to proven performance. As the true home of hull performance, we are proud that the industry has jumped on board with this solution and consider hull performance as a core element of vessel efficiency. By introducing HPS 2.0, we will continue our legacy and build on our proven performance and move forward with an even more comprehensive solution tailored to our customers' specific trade requirements,” has concluded Morten Sten Johansen.
