The fully-recyclable Glasspree® TP bars are based on the Elium® thermoplastic resins of Arkema, providing corrosion protection and chemical resistance.

Arkema and Sireg Geotech have jointly announced that their partnership has successfully developed the bendable composite rebar Glasspree® TP based on the Elium® thermoplastic resins of Arkema, providing an innovative alternative to traditional steel reinforcement for the construction sector.

The new fully-recyclable composite rebars have double the tensile strength of steel while also being 75% lighter. In addition, they show excellent corrosion-proof properties, chemical resistance and also dimensional stability event in case of extreme thermal changes.

The Elium thermoplastic resins ensure increased productivity as well as greater flexibility for the supply of composite reinforcement, improving the overall profitability of construction projects. They can be employed in the construction, maintenance and repair operations of buildings, bridges, tunnels and marine and coastal structures.

In addition, the new bars contribute to the energy efficiency of structures and significantly reduce the carbon footprint of maintenance activities. For instance, when used in bridges they ensure an estimated service life of twice that of steel (i.e. 100 years), lighter weight and superior corrosion resistance in a saline environment, lower lifecycle costs and a lower impact on the environment.

“Glasspree TP bars were developed through cooperation between Sireg and Arkema. They represent an innovation in the reinforcement of concrete structures as well as a new benchmark in terms of safety, reliability and sustainability” has stated Sonja Blanc, the CEO of Sireg Geotech.
