The New Sustainable Competitiveness of Italian Industry: Water Energy’s Press Conference at the Senate

Date: 30/03/2026

On March 25, 2026, in the Sala Nassirya at Palazzo Madama, seat of the Italian Senate, ipcm® was invited by Water Energy to take part in a technical session focused on industrial sustainability. The initiative, held as part of World Water Day activities, provided an important opportunity for discussion on industrial processes, water resource management, and energy efficiency, bringing together businesses, institutions, and academia.

On the occasion of World Water Day, the Italian Senate hosted a high-level discussion dedicated to the future of industrial sustainability in Italy. Promoted by Senator Antonio Salvatore Trevisi, the meeting featured Water Energy, a leading Italian company in industrial wastewater treatment, as the technical partner, fostering a concrete dialogue between institutions and businesses on industrial processes, water, and energy.

At the heart of the debate was the increasingly strategic role of process water reuse and energy efficiency as key drivers for strengthening the competitiveness of the national production system. This approach goes beyond environmental sustainability, increasingly taking shape as an advanced industrial model that combines technological innovation, resource optimisation, and economic growth.

The event highlighted the need to adopt an integrated, data-driven approach supported by technical expertise, enabling companies to produce more while consuming less and to manage resources such as water and energy more efficiently and responsibly. Particular attention was also given to the treatment and reuse of water in high-intensity industrial processes, such as industrial coating, where optimising water cycles and reducing waste are crucial both environmentally and in terms of production efficiency.

The discussion involved prominent representatives from political institutions, including members of the Government and the Senate, alongside contributions from academia and the scientific research community, as well as major industrial players. This diverse panel addressed the topic of the water cycle and its reuse from multiple perspectives: regulatory, technological, industrial, and environmental.

Speakers clearly emphasized the need to accelerate the transition toward integrated management models for water, energy, and materials, with a view to full industrial circularity. At the same time, particular attention was given to the opportunities offered by Transition 5.0, which introduces tools to measure, certify, and effectively leverage industrial savings, turning them into a tangible competitive advantage for companies.

During the conference, companies, technicians, and experts shared experiences, solutions, and case studies, demonstrating how process innovation can lead to concrete benefits in terms of both operational efficiency and reduced environmental impact. The dialogue between the public and private sectors once again proved to be a key factor in driving change and building a more resilient, efficient, and sustainable Italian industry.

The initiative therefore represented not only an opportunity for reflection, but also a chance to reaffirm the urgency of a shared commitment to a new production paradigm, in which technology, sustainability, and competitiveness advance hand in hand.
