The technology offers a solution for producers seeking to deliver a smooth, consistent finish while meeting stringent environmental and consumer standards. Alcosperse® OTA-100 is designed for broad compatibility with existing water-based paint formulations, allowing for straightforward integration into current manufacturing processes.
Nouryon, the global speciality chemicals firm, has introduced Alcosperse® OTA-100, a new polymer additive designed to assist manufacturers in producing water-based architectural paints that are easier to apply and align with the rising demand for low-odour products with reduced volatile organic compounds (VOCs).
Key advantages include:
- Extended open time:
Enhances paint workability and improves ease of application.
- Low odour:
Addresses consumer expectations for a more pleasant indoor painting experience.
- Reduced reliance on glycol:
Enables manufacturers to minimise or replace glycol—an ingredient often associated with higher VOC levels and unpleasant smells.
- Broad compatibility:
Designed for use across a wide range of existing formulations.
“Alcosperse® OTA-100 helps formulators meet the demand for easier-to-use architectural paints while reducing reliance on glycol. It is a practical way for producers to advance their low- and zero-VOC product lines without sacrificing quality,” has stated Joe Ferrara, Vice President of Paints & Coatings at Nouryon.
Customer trials indicate that Alcosperse® OTA-100 functions effectively across various water-based paint types with minimal impact on durability, or on scrub, stain, and water resistance. The product is currently available in the Americas and Europe, with technical support accessible via Nouryon’s global Paints & Coatings application centres.
