Merck will hold hands-on experiments during over 250 events expected to reach more than 45,000 future scientists.

The international science and technology company Merck has kicked off the 2023 European and North American tour of its Curiosity Cube, a retrofitted shipping container that offers hands-on experiments in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM).

The company aims to engage around 45,000 students at schools and public spaces through more than 250 events that will take place in eleven different countries. All experiments are led by Merck employees, allowing visitors to connect with real-life scientists and learn first-hand about STEM careers.

“In recent years, there has been considerable concern regarding a shortage of STEM professionals. As a science and technology company, we want to help spark curiosity in children and young people for the fascinating world of science. That is why our Curiosity Cube will continue its world tour to make science accessible and interactive, while also demonstrating all the possibilities that the life science field has to offer,” has stated Meeta Gulyani, the Head of Strategy, Business Development and Sustainability for Merck.

The Curiosity Cube 2023 has a brand-new feature that will allow students to interact with several topics and learn in a fun and engaging way: virtual reality (VR). Students will be able to conduct experiments about contaminants, explore evidence of environmental contamination and how conservationists try to mitigate the negative environmental impact, discover what contaminants are commonly found on classroom surfaces and learn how to stop their spread as well as use scientific instruments to run quality control tests.

It is the second European tour of the Curiosity Cube, that plans to reach Belgium, the Czech Republic, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Liechtenstein, the Netherlands, Spain, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.
